Directions:
Important: Before heading to campus, please read the information labeled “Method 2: Bringing the sample to the PDIC” on our Packing and Shipping page.
For any samples other than those for diagnosis of diseases of turf and ornamental grasses, we are located in 1227 Gardner Hall on the north campus of North Carolina State University. The street address is 100 Derieux Place. Note to GPS users: not all routes are open at all times of day. Below are detailed instructions for two ways to reach us in person.
OPTION 1: HILLSBOROGH ST. → BROOKS AVE. → PILLSBURY CIRCLE → GARDNER WEST PARKING LOT.
Note: A virtual 30-min loading permit can be obtained by calling NC State Transportation at 919-515-3424.
Driving map to the NC State PDIC
- Enter campus by turning south onto Brooks Ave. from the traffic circle on Hillsborough St .across from the State Employees Credit Union.
- Take the next left onto Pillsbury Circle.
- Follow Pillsbury Circle past Kilgore Hall, then turn right to pass beside/under the Phytotron.
- Enter the small Gardner West parking lot and look for an open LZ parking space.
- Obtain a virtual loading zone permit by calling NC State Transportation at 919-515-3424.
- Enter Gardner Hall and follow the hall all the way to the end (past two sets of double doors).
- Turn right and proceed to the end of that hall.
- Follow signs to the Plant Disease and Insect Clinic.
OPTION 2: WALKING FROM THE DAN ALLEN PARKING DECK

- From Hillsborough St., turn south onto Dan Allen Dr.
(Note: the approach from Western Blvd. is closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.). - Turn right at the first traffic light, just before the railroad bridge.
- Proceed a few hundred feet to the credit-card-pay entrance on the south side of the parking deck, and park your vehicle.
- Gardner Hall is about 200 yards to the east of the parking deck.
Follow the walking route indicated by the yellow dots on the map. - If you have a particularly large sample, feel free to come and ask us to help you bring it in or subsample from it.
