Important: Before heading to campus, please read the information labeled “Method 2: Bringing the sample to the PDIC” on our Packing and Shipping page.

For any samples other than those for diagnosis of diseases of turf and ornamental grasses, we are located in 1227 Gardner Hall on the north campus of North Carolina State University. The street address is 100 Derieux Place. Note to GPS users: not all routes are open at all times of day. Below are detailed instructions for two ways to reach us in person.


Note: If not available at the visitors booth on Stinson Dr., a virtual 30-min loading permit can be obtained by calling NC State Transportation at 919-515-3424.

  • Turn west onto Stinson Dr. from the small Pullen Rd. traffic circle.
  • Obtain a virtual loading zone permit at the information booth or by calling NC State Transportation at 919-515-3424.
  • At the end of Stinson Dr., turn left then right to access Yarbrough Dr. (Ignore the sign that says no right turn onto Yarbrough Dr.)
  • Turn left onto Derieux Pl. and continue to the parking lot between Gardner Hall and Williams Hall.
  • Park in an “LZ” space and walk to the door at the north end of the parking lot. Enter Gardner Hall and follow the signs to the Plant Disease and Insect Clinic.

Update: there may also be access to the parking area between Gardner Hall and the Biological Resources Building by entering campus at the round-about at Hillsborough St. and Brooks Ave.

  • From Hillsborough St., turn south onto Dan Allen Dr.
    (Note: the approach from Western Blvd. is closed from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.).
  • Turn right at the first traffic light, just before the railroad bridge.
  • Proceed a few hundred feet to the credit-card-pay entrance on the south side of the parking deck, and park your vehicle.
  • Gardner Hall is about 200 yards to the east of the parking deck.
    Follow the walking route indicated by the yellow dots on the map.
  • If you have a particularly large sample, feel free to come and ask us to help you bring it in or subsample from it.
