Vespa velutina is moving toward North Carolina from the south. It is not a particular threat to human health, but honeybee colonies could be severely impacted by their depredation.

Beech leaf disease was first confirmed in North Carolina in late 2025. It is caused by a leaf/bud inhabiting nematode, Litylenchus crenatae ssp. mccannii.
