If you missed them last year or didn't get your fill, you'll have another chance to see periodical cicadas (Cicadidae: Magicicada) in NC this year! If you were utterly annoyed by them, hopefully you live in a region where they're not going to emerge ;)

Brood XIV (14) cicadas will dig out of the ground after developing over the last 17 years (their parents emerged in 2008!). The brood appears to be concentrated around the mountains in the Western part of the state:

You'll likely start seeing the cicada nymphs emerge in late April or early May. Although they're a different brood with different species, they will behave similarly to the broods that emerged in 2024. For more in-depth information about these cicadas, please visit last year's post.
